ClearView Radiation Shielding – Tabletop Shields

Construction

The ClearlView Radiation Tabletop Radiation Shield frame is constructed out of aluminum. The panel frame has a support structure to lean the panel forward at a 60° angle. The support structure is designed for minimal obstruction from the sides of the panel but with the required strength to hold the panel at 60° on a flat surface.

The housing container for the ClearView solution is fabricated out of impact resistant clear polycarbonate. 1.5’’ of ClearView reduces 50% dose of Co- 60 1.25 MeV (avg.) gammas and preforms better for lower energy gammas.

Chemistry Department Applications

Working behind L blocks with small viewing windows can be very cumbersome and potentially lead to tilting of body or head leading to additional dose while working with radioactive samples. In some cases, there is little or no shielding available while performing sampling during an outage or weekly jumps.

Working behind a large 23’’ x 14’’ L-block window will save dose by virtually eliminating this activity. In a plant’s chemistry department, if the 1.5’’ thick L block is placed in front of the sampling stations and fume hoods, it will reduce potential exposure to the whole body during capturing of stripped gas from the Reactor Sample Station. Combining the transparency offered by ClearView RS shields with the work around capability of the tabletop unit (using your extremities) will reduce radiation exposure to the body. The shield can be used to pull hot samples, and as inspection shields in hot instrumentation racks. The tabletop unit can be easily moved around and used in multiple locations.
